The village green is available for the benefit of all residents and visitors for recreation. This status under The Commons Registrations Act 1965 Section 22 gives local inhabitants the right to ‘indulge in lawful sports and pastimes.’
Street Cleaning
North Yorkshire Council is responsible for cleaning and emptying public litter and dog bins.
Grass Cutting
The Parish Council review the standard of grass cutting annually and put to tender the grass cutting contract on an annual basis. The Contractors carry out 11 cuts per year, usually 2 cuts per month in the summer but less frequently in early spring and late autumn. The grass cutting contract only covers land owned or leased by the Parish Council.
Trees
Trees are reviewed bi-annually and any work necessary is carried out by a fully qualified arboreal expert.
BBQ/Fires
The use of BBQ equipment, fires or any other hazardous use of naked flames is prohibited, unless authorised by the Parish Council.
Village Furniture
Risk assessments and condition reports are completed periodically. All defects are reported to the clerk to allow appropriate repairs to be scheduled.
Flagpole
Use of the flagpole without prior authorisation from the Parish Council is prohibited. UK Flag Protocol states that Flags raised in Darkness should be illuminated, therefore all Flags should be erected no earlier than dawn and lowered no later than dusk.
Temporary Displays and Instalments
All items installed or placed on the village green (including but not limited to, display materials, scaffolding, skips or other items) must be authorised by the Parish Council prior to placement. Any items sited without prior permission could be removed and disposed of.
Christmas Tree
The annual Christmas tree will be sited at the approved location outside of The Methodist Chapel. The Parish Council is responsible for lights, decorations and safety.
Insurance
The Parish Council holds valid Public Liability Insurance as necessary to cover the lawful activities available on the village green.
Public Events
Prior permission will be obtained from the Parish Council for public events held on the village green. The organisers of such public events are responsible for all aspects of the management of and post event clearance of the site.
Parking and/or Driving
Driving or parking on a village green without lawful authority is a criminal offence under the Road Traffic Act 1988.
Damage to the Village Green
When damage is caused to the Green and the person responsible can be identified, the Parish Council will normally seek to have repairs carried out at the cost of the person causing the damage.
